OUGSS scoops several awards at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival 2022

After several years of absence from the International G&S festival due to the pandemic, the Oxford University Gilbert & Sullivan Society has had great success this summer with a production of The Gondoliers, directed by Peter Sutton, musical direction by Madeleine Lay. We did, in fact, win a good few awards for our production, and came a very close second as winners of the overall festival! The adjudicators even provided this choice quote:

'Sometimes you know from the first bars of the overture that you’re in for a good show; while some shows take a little time to build. This one fell into the first group: the moment the bright, breezy first section of the overture got under way, I knew we were in safe hands. And so it proved.'

And very hearty congratulations to those who were commended this year:

Harry Reddish (Marco) for Best Male Voice

Tamsin Sandford Smith (Casilda) for Best Female Voice

Beth Fitzpatrick (Don Alhambra) for Best Female Performer

Madeleine Lay for Best Musical Director
